Small dog attacked my 3 yo submissive hen

Oh your poor girl. Do you know what kind of fluids she is drinking? Is an avian vet an option? Her wound does not look too bad. How does it smell?

I suspect this girl is dehydrated. If you cannot entice her to drink enough fluid, would you be open to tubing fluids? What was her laying status before the injury? Has she passed any egg material since the attack?
Oh goodness that is brilliant! I bet she is... I have her on just water now for about a week but due to her small space, having small chicks in house and 2 additional roosters, plus a broody, I gave her one of the only water dispensers I had left- and I really don't like this type as they tend to smell sour with the metal. I change the water 1x3 times a day but still... I am going to switch that up!
She is in a brooder that does not have a nest box, though I have comfy towels in the corner in a nest-ish manor and did put in a little hay the other day (did not want anything sticking her bum) it is long and private but has a view of the garden and run- the rest of the flock always hops into them when open scouting for a new place to lay (because the other 9 boxes wont due). I would think if she really had to and she could, she would be able to lay.

I will put in a thick stick standing bar for her to use till I can get her out of there. I am close to being able to switch her up but not there yet. Bravo and mahalo for the fresh thoughts and perspective!!!
Vet is a long way off and my DH would never agree to it so- at this point we are sticking it out. She actually smells pretty good. I check and switch out her towels at least 1x per day.

This morning she was itching to go out with the flock!! But we are still in the middle of some pretty good rains at the moment and for the next few days. So she has to wait for in-between downpours. Good thing I am a full time, beck-and-call pet mom. 🤦‍♀️

Mazie is a 3 year old, always healthy, matriarch who still gives me in winter, 3 eggs per week. Summers, not so much. We are in our comfortable temps now even with the rains, so my girls are happy and lay gang busters in the coolness. I was thinking the trauma would stop her from laying... possibly forever especially because of age.

Oh, have a rain lull... gotta go! Thank you for your advice and good thoughts!!!
I will get some updated photos.

Can you offer her a high protein treat like scrambled egg, fish or cooked beef liver tk help with the tissue repair? That might perk her up a bit.
Thank you for the kind words @Cazook much appreciated! I am trying. :)
Not opposed to syringing Mazie at all @micstrachan but I did not want to handle or traumatize her more than necessary. I will change her waterer out as soon as I can buy a new one and add back vitamins and electrolytes. With flooding it may be another day- a bad day to be out right now.
Mazie has not wanted to eat eggs for awhile, strange right? She will gobble up meal worms and a little tomato and/or papaya or mango. I fairly recently decided to start raising mealworms and I also made a call to see if I can get more as I am running low because most all that I have left are now catatonic, pupa or beetles. I do give my chooks meat but never thought of liver. Great idea.

Our weather has taken a turn for the very wet and wild. We knew a cold front was dropping in sometime soon and as I was setting Mazie's outdoor spot up for her it started to drizzle some and now we have a full blown Casablanca kind of day. We have/had an upper and lower level low that stalled over us and was/is giving us lots of moisture for the last week or so and now it is being ushered out and filled in by this wild leading frontal edge of a cold front. Mazie is watching the show of us all scrambling while she is all dry and warm and eating tomato, papaya and meal worms in her crunchies. Outside play has been canceled again. 20210312_094028 (2).jpg 20210312_102436 (2).jpg 20210312_102507.jpg

Yes, thank you @aart , I thought so too as it's not great to leave our horses on it either. So, after the attack I started her on Gatorade (all I had at the time) for 2-3 days then gave her B12 & Nutra drench in her water for 3 days then just plain water till now. But she is a bit depressed, maybe from not being able to get out, maybe stiff from being in. I think we have made it past the worst but maybe a boosts would not hurt her for a day or so? I think her comb looked a little depleted in the last photo so I think I need to try to plump and redden her back up.
Poops are ok, little flat with plenty urates but would not expect perfect poops just yet. Today is day 11.

She is only eating so-so and wont eat wet feed right now, I mean, she did but then stopped after day 2. She has started eating crunchies again because I keep them there, it's a triple duty or all flock but she does not chow heartily. That is why I try to get her excited with a few remaining favorites. Maybe, hopefully stimulate her appetite and give her some calories she may not have had otherwise. It has been two days since she rejected egg and wet feed, I can try again, it is not like anything goes to waste around here- something is always waiting in the wings to gobble up the fun stuff.

Oh! And her new growth feathers are popping so i am sure it is hitting her like a molt.. I will try the wet feed right now matter of fact :fl and will update any good news.

After all the weather drama blew and rained itself past us, I put ol Mazie out to enjoy and stretch while i cleaned things up. She had 2 beautiful, almost normal poops, ate a little bit of the wet feed, then worms and tomatoes but never finished all of her papaya from this morning. Eh. Her comb color looked better to me, not as washed out and she did not complain as much when I picked her up but she complained a little more about the Neosporin. She was never a snuggly chook on a good day so I'll take that as a major victory with her and my relationship. 20210312_161257.jpg 20210312_161206 (2).jpg .
