One of my hens, (I don't know which, but I THINK it's a RIR), started laying eggs 4 days ago. She has since given me an egg, everyday, since then. I was under the impression that their FIRST egg, is small, but so far, all the eggs she's given me, are on the small side. She's probably around 4 and a half months old. My mom in law told me, that when they're young, the eggs are small, but, she's also not been correct about a few other things she's told me, so I don't know if she's correct on this bit of information she's giving me now. I need to hear from some of you all, on BYC, as I trust you all on anything pertaining to chickens.

Can someone help me out here? Do the eggs get bigger, as the hen gets older? Or will this chickie keep giving me a small pickie?

we've also just starting getting eggs. They are very small, but very cute. All the post I've read here say they will get bigger as she continues to lay.
congrats on your eggs

Yes, they will get bigger. Some say after the first molt but I think just time as well.

My chickens have been laying for a while and I still get small eggs sometimes. But, they did get bigger.

Thank you all.

Appreciate the answers and support. I'm still such a newb! I'm sure I'll get better at this, though.

SEEMS like the eggs from my older hens were up to their "big" size in a month, or maybe two. I'm at two weeks and am seeing some of them increase in size already.
