We have a rescue chicken and she is laying eggs. She didn't lay one yesterday and there was one other day she didn't lay one, we have had her less than a week. Her eggs are pretty small with small yokes. I don't know if that's an indication of how old she is or if it means something else. It would be nice to know how old she is but I don't know if there is any way to tell. She wandered into our cul-de-sac last week, we asked around but nobody knows where she came from. I have checked local lost and found. She seems to be my chicken now. Have been lurking and reading posts and have not seen an answer to this question yet, but there is so much information on this site it's a little bit overwhelming.

Pictures of eggs and chicken would help.

New and not sure how to post a picture. Eggs are getting eaten before a picture could be taken! If she lays another egg today I'll try and get a picture. I do have some pictures of the chicken on my iPad just not sure how to get them here.

Oh wait. I think I get it on the pics. Also I spoke too soon, I just went out there and she laid an egg, so here are pictures of chicken and egg.

Well first go down to the reply section if you are on an iPad or iPhone (I am on an iPhone) then under the word reply there should be icons go to the 3rd from the left that has mountain looking thing with a sun click on it and click choose from my device and choose your picture!

I would give her a little bit more protein like crushed oyster shells and some scratch or grit. Also make sure she is getting plenty of layer feed and water.

I am giving her oyster shell but I'm not sure what scratch or grit even is......very new to the chicken thing. I bought organic layer feed but I'm not really sure how much I should be feeding her. Going to go look more in the learning center. Thank you :)

What a pretty girl! I have no idea on the type, maybe a red sex link but I am NOT an expert at ALL and I'm not sure what type of combs red sex links end up having. Hers is so pretty

Thanks. I think she is quite pretty too. A friend of ours that has over 100 chickens thought she was a golden sex link based on pictures but I think she looks more like the reds than the goldens.
