So I have some pullets that recently started lating, one out of two Ameraucana, my New Hampshire reds, and st least one of my barred rocks I know for sure are laying. They've been laying for about a month and a half-two months now, but they are still very small eggs, although one of my New Hampshire reds is laying larger eggs. with my older chickens (who aren't really laying anymore) I never remembered they're eggs being so small at first, just slightly deformed. I also know that barred rock eggs are typically larger, same with ameraucanas. in the picture, the larger eggs are from my older hens, and the smaller ones are from my pullets. are they supposed to be this small after two months?

4 months? Interesting. So the ones that keep laying through winter will slowly get bigger. Then the ones who hold out will start with small pullet eggs next spring and take half the summer to plump up?
Very interesting.

That's the way it normally goes but there are some pullets that are "gifted" and only lay maybe one or two small eggs then bust out normal sized eggs. I've only had a couple of those girls, needless to say i like when they do that. :)

I've gotten 2 "larger than others" in the last month. Both were a double yolk. No idea which hen & both eggs were unique. One long & pointy while other was standard looking, just bigger.

I got excited, but sounds like it is to be expected.

It varies per bird, but it can takes form a couple weeks to 6 months for egg to reach 'large' size (57g/2oz).

This is the first year I had a fast 'larger' laying pullet.
Great in one way, but disappointing as she was hopefully to be an olive egger but lays brown.

Very timely... searched for just this info here today :)
I’ve 4 pullets who just turned 6 months old and just started laying... egg size as above OP stated as compared to older hens I bought this summer.
Is the frequency of laying something that gradually increases as well. Right now with 4 egg-laying-newbies I’m getting an egg every 3-4 days, they just started laying this week.
