i bought five RIR bitties at a local feed store that have grown quite big . I have fed them grit given them light and laying pellets. There is only one egg in the coop every afternoon and it is soo small but it has a yoke and is a strong egg. they look too big to lay eggs this small. Does anyone know what is wrong?

Do you know how old they are and how long they have been laying? I'm a newbie but I'm pretty sure that young pullets lay some funny tiny eggs until they get the whole thing down, practice makes perfect. My BO is a big girl, but lays smaller eggs then my BR who has been laying longer.

Yes, do you know their age?

Pullets that have just started laying will lay small eggs. They will gradually get bigger over time. You may notice a large increase in egg size after they go through their first molt. (around 18 months)
