Huh that didn’t work. This is a little article about scaly leg mites, but don’t do the gasoline treatment.https://cs-tf.com/scaly-leg-mites/
I live in Missouri about an hour north of Joplin its been cold a few days and warm a few days it’s been crazy weather this year. I pray they do peel up two of them are being a chicken other two are but not as much as the other two they could be still stressed from the move and me putting de on them and trying to check them over. I don’t know what there other coop looked like but my guess is not well kept up.Don’t worry! Once they get some proper layer pellets in them they will perk right back up. If it’s hot where you are, their combs will be pale.

oh, I recently learned that DE isn’t very effective.I live in Missouri about an hour north of Joplin its been cold a few days and warm a few days it’s been crazy weather this year. I pray they do peel up two of them are being a chicken other two are but not as much as the other two they could be still stressed from the move and me putting de on them and trying to check them over. I will try that and see and I plan on using Vaseline after giving there legs a good soaking in warm water and some dawn dish soap. Then drying them off and putting the Vaseline on them then next Sunday doing that whole thing again!None of them appear to be molting, so they are probably a year old. To be sure, lift the feathers on the back of the neck and see if pin feathers are coming in. If you don't see any pin feathers on these girls, they are in their first year.
A simple effective treatment for leg mites is castor oil or Vaseline smeared heavily on the legs and feet.
Well I have wanted chickens since 2015 and this year in April we bought our first home and what was the first thing I did after closing order baby chickens hahaha but from 2015 until this year I have been watching YouTube homesteaders and learning as much as I can. Now I know that hands on knowledge is better the. Watching YouTube but still I tried to do my part plus when I got home and looked them over I started YouTubing but I couldn’t find any or very little about my issues and from the pictures I saw online my girls just seem a lot younger then a year by there combs but there body’s look older. I can only go on what my buffs look like and they just seem healthier then these australorps and when I found out what there feed was like and noticed there mites I just had to turn to more then my research I needed advice. Since my original girls are not laying yet I decided to take these girls on thinking they where older they will lay but when I actually got to look them over I noticed there not in the best shape to me anyways I will do my best and hope for the best and know that I gave them a better home a dryer better food and hopefully in a couple weeks I will notice a difference. For a self described new chicken mom, you seem pretty on the ball to me. These new girls are in good hands.
