Go to the BYC section called where am I where are you? At the top is a sticky with the index of how to find your state.

So to your state's thread and look there for breeders of the breeds that you want. That way you can find chicks in your state and you can drive to pick them up.

I would also suggest to look locally .You can get 1, 2, 3 whatever from a hatchery or person if you pick up.
Try the Ebay Classified in your area..
They have local farm animals ,poultry etc.Someone may be closer to you than you think and you can pick up, save the shipping totally

I went to all the feed stores within 30 miles and got lists of the breeds they would be getting in and what dates. I have had very healthy chicks, none have died, and I have a wide variety in breeds- even rare breeds. I just made sure to show up right when they opened on the dates they got my chosen breeds, or to prepay for chicks and put them on hold till I could get there.

That's a good thought. I hadn't thought about ebay.
