I witnessed one of my hens pooping, and she had a little prolapse that the poop had to get by.
I have dealt with prolapsed vent before, but that was much bigger. This one’s was little, like the size of a marble.
I went and prepared a bath with epsom salt, and then went back to get the hen. She didn’t have a prolapse anymore, so it must have went back in. I have since checked her a few times a day, and she never has prolapse, but she does have a white trail on her butt feathers from poop. I suspect she might have that prolapse every time she poops.
She does sometimes lay oversized eggs (double yolkers).
What do I do about it?

I only saw that little prolapse the one time. She was standing high up on a platform when she pooped. I have since checked her many times, also after I see her poop or after she laid an egg, and no prolapse.

Has anyone had this happen in a hen?

When I search the internet or this site, the only thing that comes up is the regular big prolapsed vent, that I am also familiar with.

I noticed a couple of my faverolles hen siblings having small prolapses like this when they strained to poop or lay an egg. Once I left them alone, they went right back to normal. I think this can be common. There is not much to do about this, but just keep an eye on them in case other chickens see the red and start pecking at their vents.

Ok, good to know! Thanks!
