@scottandsam - I too want to germs an amazon echo and control lights and accessories in the couple with you voice! Will let you know what I come up with once I get solar panel on and working

I read up on x10 technology a while ago. btw that old not new stuff. They could do the ps4 and tv and radio with that but I want something easier. I figure somebody just got to write it into alexas database in the cloud. Then I can just make simple choices in the app and it will be a lot easier. LMK what you come up with.

Looks like you can use Smartthings hub and plug in sockets to control any thing plugged into it. But my choice would be to save up some $ and by the kits above. Let me know if you come across any thing on your end as well and what u think of products?

Do you need a 'smart' phone for that?

@aart - yes either a smart phone or a tablet or I believe a laptop would also work if you can do it on a smart phone. (But not 100%sure on that)

Yeah, I thought so....most decent cams are.
No smart phone here, terrible cell signals at my place, couldn't afford it anyway.
Landline for phone and dsl internet work just fine.

Most mobile apps for websites stink anyway, so I'm not missing out on much...
.....except those cameras, hehe.

My dsl wireless router might work, but am not smart/ambitious enough to hoe that row.
I used to be pretty tech savvy, but couldn't afford a ticket on the app train.

at camera is awesome. I gotta get me one. We lost our smallest female yorkie last night to a pack of coyotes. And besides fencing I'm gonna get a camera and that one is awesome. Thanks for the link.
