Smelly Cats!

it could be due to a food sensitivity, or if they are indeed eating too fast and swallowing too much air, try mixing the canned food with the dry -- they'll have to eat it more slowly. I feed mine canned food in the morning, and sometimes a half-day ration at night if they seem particularly hungry at evening. I free-feed Purina Indoor Cat Chow at all times, and it has done miracles for my cats who had issues with fairly frequent hairballs & vomiting. Much, MUCH less vomiting, and I haven't seen a hairball in months now, Hallelujah! *doing happy dance* I agree w/ Redhen -- the canned food does seem to be better especially for the males. Less incidence of UTIs and struvite crystal formation when given a canned or canned/dry diet rather than dry only. (in this household's experience, anyway.)

My vet says the same thing. Mine get a mixture.

Can't really help the OP with the gas problem. Can you ask the vet about giving it gas-x or beano? Are you giving it milk?

Gratuitous comment- Could be worse. I have a cat that had to have it's large intestine removed. I deal with the odor and residue daily. Won't go into anymore detail, but let's say; I wouldn't do it again.

Many cats can't tolerate the lactose in cow's milk. Some handle it fine, while others end up with diarrhea, gas, and cramping. If you are giving yours milk, you might want to rethink that ... cheese, yogurt, and cottage cheese don't affect them that way, though, in my experience.

They do eat the hard food too. (Taste of the Wild) I only give a can in the morning and it is split between all 3 cats. so they dont get much. Otherwise it is dry food all day.

I will try to not do canned food for a week or two and see if that helps.

I never give milk, i know that is bad for their systems.
They dont get anything dairy. Maybe if I am feeling extra sweet they can lick a cooked egg yolk or something, but thats it for human food.

I think I will try mixing some dry food in with the wet before I completely take them off of the wet food. See if slowing them down helps.

Canned and hard food are ok. Its the quality of food you are feeding. I would have to look up the brand you mentioned. My vet said to never feedcanned food only because the dry food helps keep the teeth cleaned. If the cat never eats anything abrasive then the plaque will stick worse. Like dogs with chew toys. You see less build up with chewers. Obviously if you have an animal who's teeth are bad or gone than you have no choice.
All that said cat poo always seems super stinky but it shouldn't stink you out of the house like the Bengals I have known.

Agreed. My cats don't have gas unless they get canned food...then you might as well just leave the house...

Taste of the Wild is a good food so you're all right there, but I'd try dry food only instead.

Our 12 year old bombay mix has let fly about three times in her entire life. It's a good thing that there hasn't been more because I cannot tolerate it. (Never mind that I'm the typical husband who leaves a trail of black smoke throughout the house. Mine are a different matter.)
Our cat has eaten only dry Friskies all her life. Her treats are an occasional slurp of milk ... and every time we open a can of tuna she gets the water from it.
