Smoking bans....... your thoughts????

Part of the problem before the smoking ban is that a lot of restaurants and other establishments really wanted to ban smoking in their business, but felt that they couldn't do so of they will miss out on making money. It's all about the bottom line. Now that they have a law, they can just say, "hey, I don't want to get fined" or "it's the law, I can't do anything about it" and don't have to worry about making the customer mad at them as much. It sorta passes the blame and doesn't make them look like the bad guy.

I do not agree with bans that prohibit owners from operating their business with legal products.

What ever happened to a business owners having control over how to run his /her establishment. Shouldn't it be their choice in their business to allow smoking or not? Just like it is our choice to frequent a business based on our smoking preference.

Tobacco products are a legal substance for those over 18, therefore until it is illegal to possess, business owners who operate with an over 18 crowd, should have the right to allow it used in their establishments.

Smoking is banned in all public places, including sidewalks. And Burbank police are the nazi-est around.

They're trying to do that here in some towns in San Diego County, too.

Doesnt stop a drunken tart from stumbling into me with the burning end of her cigarette as I walk down riverside....

On that note, alcohol is WAAAY worse than cigarettes.

I agree and disagree at the same time, and I think that is why the smoking ban is such a huge topic of debate. I agree that it is legal, and therefore everyone has a right to do what they want. However, as a non-smoker, I have the right to walk down the street or enter a building and expect my health will not be jeopardized. Same as the right to drive my car and expect to not get hit by another driver who is under the influence or on the phone or otherwise not paying attention. We all have rights, and this ban is stretching both sides. No matter which way they go, there will be a loosing side, and they will be bitter.

With that said, think of this. Smoking is down to 20%. That means 80% of the population are non-smokers. Who do you think will eventually win? And please no bashing, I'm not trying to be rude, just stating facts and my opinions. I could really care less, as my biggest worry is not the smoking ban, it's our fight against breast cancer.

Never has bothered me, but I am all for the bans, since some people medically shouldn't be around it. Plus, I just hate it when small children see smokers! No offense, but I would hate to see them make the wrong choices for their health.

Here it is illegal to smoke within 20' of an entrance. No indoor smoking at all. Many of the places with patios also do not allow it, but that is their choice, and I appreciate and patronize the places that do not allow any smoking.

Gee, I saw more and more smoke free restaurants and hotels/motels open and THRIVE long before laws banned smoking in public places. Maybe it has to do with the geographic region, as that has always played a large role in numbers of smokers.
