Eek... I just sold 3 to a gal in Chattanooga... but I thought there was someone on here who raised d'Uccles.
If there is I am sure they will check posts over the next few days.
Good luck and welcome to the thread.

I'm raising D' Uccles. i had bator issues so not sure if more than two cream seeming chicks will hatch that have, out of half dozen set, but can start saving eggs from my porcelain hen and millie D'feur cock, as testing 100% fertility in this weather even oddly same as my Americana bantams. hello and welcome!

I thought that was you who raised them.... :)
Glad you saw the post.
Hope your bator issues resolve... I know from experience how frustrating that can be.

I had bator issues during all the power outages we had over the winter.
I was unprepared to readily put them on backup.
That said, I was pleasantly surprised to hatch a few from those weird Jan hatches.
Thought I'd share... I got 6 Rhodebars... 2 cockerels and 4 pullets.
I think I may go ahead and part with one trio... simply running out of room with all the HRIR I hatched... which is what happens when the bators DO work well and you set more than you planned. :)

I'm actually deciding to part with my D'Uccles. will miss the color and personality of bdb (bunson D' beaker) the young hen, and her two chicks so far are adorable, and hansom roo (fozzy), but will make more room ect for rest. I'm trying to decide on trying more farm type chickens again, as last were not as hardy as current birds. trying to decide on either cheap feed store bramas, flea market dominicers, or some of REDRIDGEs HRIRs..

May be a weird method to my madness, but there is a method. ;-)

So... why do people hatch (etc) in spring and summer? What are the advantages?
What are the down sides to hatching in the winter?
The list is probably long for both, but... if it works for you it isn't wrong.
The important thing is that we all need to be reasonable about how much time we have, where our passions lie, how much we want to invest physically, financially, and emotionally. I farm for a living... so the bottom is important. But for someone who just has 3 chickens in their backyard I'm sure this is all quite silly.
Fun to hear different perspectives though.

Good to hear! I had no idea about showing roosters older than six months! I'm all about eggs, but since I already have layers, it's not a big deal to me to wait until September for eggs. I just don't have room for the 25+ that the hatcheries want to ship in spring/summer on top of the 22 chickens and 6 ducks that are already here.
