Yep I was talking about the Newport show and the Fall picnic LOL!! You probably have. I'm always the one with the bright hair and tattoos.

I'm looking forward to my chicks---but I'm worried about the temp dropping again *crosses fingers*

today is 8th day of incubation for me 2nd hatch of mine first time i woulda had a 100% hatch rate but i accidently didnt copensate for removing the egg turner so they all died :{ but i got 16 in all in the bator 11 OEGB and 5 RIR from my cousin and only 2 appeared to be infertile so YAY!

on you second attempt. Good luck! I have my incubator set up, regulating it & trying to decide the best location for it. I am waiting on my older hens to start laying....they are 5-7 years old at least and do not seem to be in any hurry.

I can't place you. I was at both events but don't remember very many from the show. Did you leave before we got to the picnic because I thought I remembered everyone from there? Sorry I guess I am getting old.

the market depends, and seen hens go for fifteen to twenty a piece though when the warmer months are on and the hype from rich hobby farmers bring high demand, but even farm fresh eggs in knox unfertilized and uneven sized/shaped/colored/breed ect can go easily for five dollars a dozen to seven even. too rich for my blood, but was reminded of higher profit sometimes by friend, and not to low ball on values, so sorry if i under priced and hopefully other can correct accordingly.

I can't comment on the going rate for chicks or chickens but as for eggs in my area I think they were selling for $3 dozen. As for me and my eggs I do well to give them away! I have sold a few for $2 dozen to people my husband works with but not many. Please keep in mind I do not advertise, work alone and my husband does not work with many people either. This is just based on my experiences and I am in Jefferson county: maybe more competition up here?

Hello all.
Living in Anderson County here and recently got interested in raising birds again after taking a break for a few years. Right now i have silver laced wyandottes, euskal oiloas, and production reds but i also raise goats, african grey parrot, snakes and tegus(a large species of lizard). I am incubating some spangled hamburgs and emu eggs so hopefully that goes well. :)
Planning getting several ornamental and game pheasant species and peafowl this spring/summer Maybe even some turkeys, guineas and ostrich if the chance presents itself. If anyone here raises any of these and plans on having some available this year feel free to send me a message. I prefer hatching eggs over birds in most cases because i enjoy hatching them myself and lowering the chance of spreading a virus to my own birds which has happened in the past unfortunately when buying live birds and bringing them to my farm. :(
