Jody, I am very concerned, I don't usually lose sleep over a forum, but last night I had the thoughts of this poor man on my mind. I truly hope he gets to keep his arm let alone his hand. Personally I would have cut my finger off on the spot as soon as it happened. Better to lose a finger than the whole arm. At the very least sliced until until it bled really good.

Yes, this scares me.

Glad to hear he is at the hospital now and being taken care of.

As far as thinking it is dead.... I know the rattlers here ( western Diamondback) can bite up to 45 minutes after they are dead so treat them with lots of respect even after you think they are dead. I usually cut the head off and put it in a can or jar and throw it in the garbage so my dogs or nothing else gets it.

It's also a common myth that young snakes have a more potent venom but they dont, they just havent learned how to control the release of it so they inject more than older snakes.

Nancy

The best way to think of it, is " A gun is never empty, and a snake is never dead!"

Whatever it was, I would bring him and the dead snake to the ER - sounds like he's having a reaction to the bite and bringing the snake will help determine what anti-venom to use.

Just got back from the hospital. Good news...........he gets to keep all his body parts. Only the outer skin on his index finger is dying.Kinda like you get a real deep slice off your finger. The bad news.....He will live (this is not the bad news) to do it again (that is the bad news). He gets to sleep there again tonight and probably go home in the morning. I had chicks hatching so I needed to come home. Will go back this evening, he is NOT liking the dress they have him wearing.

thanks for all the worries and prayers.

That's what I was taught when I was growing up!
It would save a lot of lives if everyone thought this way.

I hope he doesn't have too much damage already.

Thanks for the update! I'm glad everything is ok. As for the dress thing...I don't blame him. I didn't like them either. I always wore two. One the way they wanted you to wear it, and a second like a robe.
