LOL I do the same thing! I'm always picking up spiders and I haven't got bit yet, but I like the spiders their cool to watch.

When we bought our house on the lake, the walls were invested with violen spiders. Apparently my father and I are "immune" to their bites. When we get bit, there are minor reactions if any at all.

I used to take the spiders places to warn people that this is what they look like.

Violen Spiders? Are they the same as Brown Recluses?

sorry, I still feel the only good spider or snake is a DEAD one.So there fore ANY spider, or snake i see gets to leave planet earth earlier than they planed. But thats what makes the world go round some like one thing and some like another, but we all like chickens. marrie

On the chicken end of things - about 2 years ago my big black rooster (his name was Cock o' Van...) made a practice of finding and killing these little ringneck snakes he have around here. They live in leaf litter and at least twice I found him trying to get one swallowed. He would drop it and try to tear it into smaller pieces. One was pretty big and quite alive!

I haven't seen any copperheads or rattlers but have seen a few milksnakes, water snakes, and garter snakes around. I think generally the barn cats get them long before they threaten any chickens.

I've only seen one wild snake I've left alive *not fed to cats, horses, dogs, or gun*. A rat snake that had just eaten the last remaining mouse in my house.

He did get swept out of the house.

Also, all snakes are predators, regardless of whether they're a copperhead or a garter.

My sister is terrified of birds. What kind of world would we have if everyone killed everything they feared. Killing something to protect your family or animals, I can understand, but not just because you fear them.

Cats do more harm than any snake would, rather have snakes in my barns anytime than a cat, that kill alot more then mice.

No I dont have small children , but would catch any copperhead i find and remove it.

Not telling people to do the same, but to kill a snake because you dont know if its danger???

Like killing every dog you see, because some kill people(more than snakes)

We all have our limits with regards to the risks we would take. Note that you're fearless enough to find a copperhead and remove it. Whether you would like to admit it or not, there is a certain high risk in getting injured by doing that. I'm not saying that you're wrong, I'm just saying that removing a copperhead does not put you past your comfort zone.

Other people don't share that with you. I, on the other hand, do not like taking such risks with an animal infamous for causing tragedy. My own health, my own family and my own pets/livestock are worth too much for me to take a chance on snakes, especially dangerous ones.

We all have our limits, and we deal with them in our own way.

Why else would it hurt when you get bit by them?

And to the person that said the only good spider is a dead one, thats sort of my frame of mind for snakes, and spiders.
