SNAKE, SNAKE, BIG SNAKE (PICS)

I'm with you, ginbart! The only good rat is a dead rat! We have them getting into the house via somewhere in the laundry room. I keep a Havahart set up in there at all times. They are quickly drowned once caught. Ooohh, I hate rats! Snakes are useful. The only ones we kill here are the occasional rattlesnakes.

Did I get this right? You catch rats in a live trap then drown them.

Why not use a rat trap, like a big mouse trap? Why drown? Isn't there a more humane way to kill them?

Can't you find the entry route and seal it off?

We have tried the giant snap traps ourselves. We always catch one or two when we first put them out, but after that, none of them go for it. I guess they get wise to the traps.. Then again, I haven't tried the havaheart traps myself, so I don't know if they get wise to those..

Did I get THIS right? Did you actually ask that question? In the first place, drowning is a quick, humane death. Are you actually chastising while suggesting that people shouldn't try to eliminate all rats around their homes? ABSURD!

I guess I am terribly misinformed. I did not realise that drowning is conisdered a quick humane method. (Thinking of putting kittens and puppies in a bag and throwing them in the river, lake, etc.)

I have been duly chastised. Edited here: No I haven't been duly chastised. I have been misunderstood therefore I did not need to be chastised.

In no way did I intend to imply that people shouldn't try to get rid of rats. I used to work in environmental health inspecting restaurants. Two of the primary means of rodent control was to not feed them and to keep them out.
Another addition: My comment was about keeping rats out of the house.

Edited to add: After doing some quick research on drowning as a method of euthanasia I have found that it is a highly debatable topic. And some more addition: It isn't accepted by the American Veterinary Medical Association as a humane method.
