Snakes

So I am getting 4 seven week old chicks next Thursday should I put down the mesh wire in my coop to deter snakes or use snake repellent I have only seen rat snakes here in Candler but I am new to chickens and want them safe

I would use hardware cloth which will also deter mammalian predators. Good luck with your new flock.
