My bantum cochin, Rosie, is sitting on nine eggs set to hatch some time between May 10 - 12th. I have some chicks coming from the local feed store May 6th and May 12th. I have heard of people just adding them to a broody hen's hatch, but what is the best way to do this? Should I wait to add the chicks I'm picking up on the 6th until the others have hatched or right when I get them? I will add them at night of course. Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Def at night (its easier that way unless you have a silkie broody of course). I just did the same thing except for mine came out of the bator and it just so happened that hers hatched at the same time. I thought what the heck ..why not ..and well my silkie must have thought the same thiing. I gave them to her during the day and she didnt even blink just shoved them underneath her with her beak. I heart silkies.

Thank you, yes I will definitely do it at night. The main question I have...
I have some chicks coming from the local feed store May 6th and May 12th. Should I wait to add the chicks I'm picking up on the 6th until the others have hatched (between the 10th and the 12th) or right when I get them?

I'm wondering if I add them before the others hatch, will she just think some hatched early or will she stop sitting?

It shouldn't be an issue. she'll probably think they hatched early. just stick around a bit to make sure she accepts them. i have given week old chicks like that to hens at my cousins house with no problems reported.
