Sneezing and Wheezing cockerel *Video

Yes and we'll be fine as long as she doesn't consult with Cornell!:he
Well, even 'professional' advice needs grains of salt at times.
Have no idea if Cornell even has poultry 'experts'.
If your vet keeps learning and researching she may find someone there with the right skill set to confer with.

Just an update to those who invested time to help me with this boy. I got the flu right after we talked and didn't accomplish much except basic care.

He seemed to hold steady while the tetracycline was in their water. I finished that a few days ago and then he seemed to get worse.

Saturday I started giving him 50mg oral amoxicillan 1x per day. Yesterday he was slightly improved. Today I have to lean in close to hear any wheeze. Coincidence or just lucked into the right drug? Anyone know how many days to continue this?

Final update I hope. Bruno has no symptoms as of this morning. Can't hear him breathe at all. No one else ever got sick. Chickens don't get colds but this seems to have passed harmlessly.

Do I need to consider my flock forever infected now? Or could he have just breathed in some environmental bacteria that took hold?

Impossible to tell unless you have swabs analyzed at a lab. Because of the quick effects of the AB's, I'd guess it is bacterial rather than viral, but still, what bacteria remains a mystery.

Glad he's feeling better!

Thanks me too, he's a nice cockerel so far. Guards the pullets when they are out already.

I suppose time will tell one way or another if they are carrying something.

Maybe.
They can carry stuff and never show symptoms unless overall health deteriorates enough for the 'germs' to take over.
I've had a few mild respiratory issues with a few birds in my flock,
they all recovered with no treatment.

No hurry to add more chickens right now in any case. I didn't intend this many, expected shipping losses being a cold wet October like we had. Or choosing favorites and moving some along. Everyone thrived and I like them all so I'm set. Unless I end up with rooster issues but I'll have segregated space so that might be ok too. I've had good luck in the past wth multiple roos and these are all calm breeds.
