Didn't get much answers the first time, so I'm trying again. Here are my questions:

I have a chick who has watery eyes and is sneezing. It's a turkey chick, but it's in with the chicken chicks too. I started it on Tetracycline last Sunday and for good measure have everyone on it because the dang thing has exposed everyone. Here are my observations:

1. No one else is sneezing or showing symptoms

2. Turkey chick is active, eating and drinking. Seems to be getting a little better, but not much. Seems to sneeze more when I enter the pen or when agitated. (I move around in the pen, for example).

Since no one else is showing signs, I'm wondering if this is allergies or asthma. Do chicks get this?

TIA

Sometimes the dust from wood shavings can make them sneeze! If the chick is still acting OK and its eyes aren't glassy, I wouldn't worry too much. I've had sneezers get better. I have also had sneezers die, though.

If it's a respiratory infection, there's probably not much you can do. The terramycin probably won't hurt them, but if it's viral it won't help either.

Just be sure the chick stays nice and warm, don't stress it too much (i.e., leave it alone), and be sure there's clean food and water. Then hope for the best!

So far, the chick is smaller than the other one. It originally had weepy eyes but got better with the terramycin. It still sneezes occasionally but so far none of my flock has it (knock wood).

We've been talking about what to do with the little guy (gal?) If he doesn't get better and thrive in a couple of weeks, I may have to cull him and get a couple more turkeys.
