Hi - I heard my eight month old white Brahma sneeze the other day she was outside and didn’t think much of it - she’s acting normally and nobody else is sneezing / acting sick. When I went to check on them this evening, she had a bunch of sneezes back to back.
Is there any way to tell allergy or normal sneezing from a chicken cold (upper respiratory issue)? I have just about every non-injectable type medicine out there, so I can preemptively treat her if it’s safer to do that than to wait and see.
Their coop is a garden shed - I have large pine horse bedding shavings, straw, and some Sunday lime (whatever it’s called - it’s safe for chickens). I have an attic type fan made for pulling air up and out in the shed, and there are two windows but I’ve been keeping them fairly closed so there isn‘t a draft. Which is a separate question - the shed doesn‘t have open soffits for airflow and we didn’t get to cutting them out. I don’t know what this thing is made of but it was TOUGH to cut out the small square for their auto door. Cutting all around the thing may warrant a professional. I digress, but we didn’t get to it. So side question - how do I ensure there is enough air? Put some sheer blinds in there to allow air but prevent draft? I have two of those plate warmers on the wall by their roosts - eight girls and plenty of room to get away from them if they don’t need heat (although I’ve read maybe heat in the coop is a bad idea…so many opinions). Anyway, thoughts on those long winded questions? I’ll find a pic of the coop and post.
