This duckling is about 5 weeks old, give or take a few days.

He/she started sneezing/coughing today or maybe last night and I am not sure why? They have not been outside yet, so I have not idea.

What could this be? Should I be overly concerned?

What kind of waterer are using? can they duck their heads and clean their faces? I'd put some ACV into their water 1 Tab to 1 gallon and see if that helps, but ducks need to be able to wash out their eyes and nares. maybe getting dry feed caught. coughing like chocking.

They have one of those tall square glad lock bowels with a hole cut out in the lid. So they are able to get their entire bill down in it, but not their face. I alternate ACV and plain water. Hmm, only one of them (2 in this brooder) is doing this. It's not a constant thing though.

I'm not sure what to tell you, I wouldn't jump on the antibiotics too quick though they can present their own set of problems. Brooder has good ventilation? maybe dust from feed? since they haven't been outside so haven't been exposed to any other animals? bedding reasonably dry and clean? no ammonia smell?

I don't do meds like antibiotics for my birds. I may give them some plain yogurt though.

Yes, good ventilation, could be some dust in the feed. They have only been inside. I have 2 other brooders going, 1 with 6 ducks (4 mallards and 2 Pekin) and the other box has 2 bantam chicks. We have dogs and cats in the house, but that's as about as exposed as they are.

I change/clean out their box every day. Need to do that today, but still don't think that is it???

Well I will see what happens. Right now he/she is fine. Both of them are sleeping.

Give them a bigger hole so they can wash their entire head. very important also swim time will help to give them a chance to get a good wash. and watch and wait.

She/he is doing better today. Have only heard 1 sneeze all day so far.

I don't have anything else that I can cut holes in to give them for water that they can stick their whole head in. :( The other 6 ducks are suppose to be gone by now, but with all the rain we are having, almost constant, my dad cannot get their duck house built. :( It is chilly in our house, so I am trying to keep the dry to make sure they don't get sick. The 2 younger ducks still have some down on them, so they are not fully feathered.

I buy those cheap plastic containers [store brand] at the grocery store they have lids and are easy to cut holes into. We're in the same rut lots of rain it's a muddy mess out there. Glad to hear she is better.
