hi, I have a hen that has a “stuffy sounding” nose and sneezing. Any way I can help her, or medicines of any sort? So far she seems to be the only one showing these symptoms. Thanks guys!

Do you have any pictures? Can you check to make sure that her nostrils are not clogged? If they seem to be stopped up, clean them with saline and tissue. If they are plugged, apply one drop of hydrogen peroxide and very gently clean them with a toothpick.

Look for any bubbles or foam in her eyes. Do you hear any sneezing?

thanks for replying @Eggcessive!!! I don’t see any bubbles or foam with her eyes, I’ll get a good look at her nostrils in the morning when they get up, I don’t have any pics, I just hear the stuffy nose breathing, random sneezing. Oh that’s scary, so I just move the very tip of the toothpick around in the nostrils after one drop of peroxide per nostril? Do they get debris lodged up in there or something?

@Eggcessive ok now the hen that I thought had a stuffy nose seems fine, but my other hen is having loud raspy rattle like breathing!!! You can hear it in the video, I feel rattling in her chest! Acts normal and looks fine other than that. I’m freaking out, what can I do?! Thanks :(

Can you call your local feed store or TSC, and ask if they have Tylan 50 injectable? It is a cattle antibiotic used in chickens. Get some 3 ml syringes and 20 gauge needles as well. You may give the antibiotic orally a few drops at a time. You may have a respiratory disease happening. It could be infectious bronchitis, a virus, or mycoplasma (MG,) a bacterial disease. Tylan 50 dosage is 0.25 ml (1/4 ml) per pound 3 times a day for 3-5 days. Make sure the chickens are drinking water well. Keep at eye on their nostrils in case they become stuffy.

Oh no, I sure hope it’s not. Ok, so I can do how many drops orally per pound? I’m not good with needles. I’m calling tractor supply right now

I did give them oxytetracycline in their water just now. I’m not sure if she’s drank any. It was all I had and a year past it’s expiration date ugh. So I’m guess I should dump that and get to the supply store ASAP?
