Snow, what do Your hens think of it this year ?

My IBs came out, but the EE stepped out for only a bit before going back into the covered run. The forecast is calling for 5-9”. This ought to be fun with the added 40 degrees on the weekend. Oh boy!

Lol! Chickens are funny creatures for sure. I had one bunch that wouldn't go out I the snow, shoveled a path, no go. Spooked them out and they all avoided the path and flew into the deep snow and went completely paralyzed, just laid in it wings out immobilized in fear. I waited awhile then had to go trudge through the snow and pick each one up and return them to the coop, (I was afraid their legs would freeze eventually) and these chickens prior and after never let me pick them up, they did that day without a peep Lol!
Wish I had thought to take a pic, it was pretty comical.
Chickens I have now ignore the snow and just go about their day like it's nothing.

Ok they stepped off the block but only 1/2 a foot to where the bread was.
And that is all they wrote for today.

It's gonna be a LONG Winter if they keep this up !
:bun
I was just thinking how bored my chickens will be over the next few months since they hate the snow too!
We have about a foot so far and it’s been unseasonably cold for this time of year (it’s like February now, highs in mid teens and lows in single digits- even less with wind chills!) and very windy. A shoveled path didn’t interest them. They are 9 months and this is their 1st winter.
As soon as the temps “warm up” to the low 30s next week I’m going to put a clear tarp around part of their run where the wind and snow are the worst and see if they will at least go out in the run.

Not chickens or snow, but winter related... These are my Painted Quail and my Diamond Dove. :lau He literally climbs over them, hopping over their backs, and then squeezes into the middle of the huddle to keep warm.

mine hate snow, they touch it with there feet and run into the coop, the ducks on the other hand like eating it. when it was snowing they try to catch the flakes coming down.

Well, I'm going to go out and shovel my girls a path in the morning! We've got maybe 4-5 inches, and its been -20C to -15C for the past 3 days. BRRRRRRR...(like around 3-7 F) They've been stuck inside the barn- the chicken door's been open the whole time, but they aren't even looking out. I've laid down some straw on the snow, and made a little playground area with boxes and some pallets, but they are not into it at all.
Tomorrow I will shovel them a path to the forest and see if that will entice them after 3 days of being indoors.
I want chickens that like snow!!!

About 4 years ago we got up to a bit of snow on the ground. My son and I went out to open the coop and the hens, as always, flew out enthusiastically… And discovered an ice carpet instead of their usual grass. They did a lap of the lawn and ran back into the coop from where they peeked out at us, complaining and squawking, like it was all our fault! Gosh, it was funny.
Haha, mine are the same! When there was just a little sprinkling they were happy enough and mostly tried to eat it, but when it got thicker... Nope. They ran to the door all excited to go out, did a bit of milling around just outside (helped by some bribery in the form of BOSS) and were all back in again snuggling down on their feet in about 30 seconds... And they clearly blamed us, every time we came in or out they insisted on checking to see if it was still snowy out!
But what they hate most is the wind, if it ruffles up their feathers they look totally offended and race back inside.
