So… is this a wild or escaped/set free/ domestic rabbit?

them, as in all 3? or just this one?
I wasn't sure how many you were hoping to catch. So I'm just suggesting you check gender on any you do catch.

i dont think theres a nest at them moment, but i could also be wrong. I've looked around where its stayed and havent seen anything.

Rabbits often dig a burrow to have bunnies, or hide them under a building, or something like that. Then the doe usually sneaks in once or twice a day to nurse while staying away the rest of the time. So you often won't see the bunnies until they are 2 to 3 weeks old and start coming out to hope around.

What breed do you (Y'all, really) think it could be?
Probably a mix. Mixed-breed rabbits are very common.

Here's a list of breeds recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association, but I've also heard of additional breeds they do not recognize.

New Zealands are fairly common, and come in several colors including black. But I think a mix is more likely than any pure breed.

I dont get why people dump rabbits...like just eat it lol they obvioulsy dont care if it dies outside.
Personally, I like to eat rabbit. But apparently there are quite a few people who can't stand to think about eating an animal they know, even if that means they do something more cruel instead (like turning it loose somewhere instead of humanely dispatching it.)

thats a good suggestion : D

should i look for it?

it has a few bits of fur that look amber/dark tan ish

thanks for the list!

For some strange reason, people seem to think that they'll survive in the wild, even though they spend most of their lives in a pen/hutch. Logic...

Head shape makes me think New Zealand mix. I had NZ x Cali Giant mixes and a Cali Giant buck when we raised meat buns.ita common to cross breed meat rabbits to get qualities of both breeds.

Oh yeah, i looked up Black New Zealand rabbit and it looks extremely similar

Definitely domestic. Wild rabbits, such as cotton tails, are agouti colored. European rabbits (domestic rabbits ancestors) have a different body shape.
Unfortunately, many people do not understand how much work rabbits can be and so they often dump them after impulsively buying (which is common around holidays). They usually don't understand that domestic rabbits don't survive in the wild.

Live traps are often effective, but you'll have to keep a close eye on it. You don't want it to stay in a trap for long.

Once you catch them, you'll need something like a dog play pen or kennel. Keep them separate to avoid pregnancy or fighting. They'll need fresh water in a dish (avoid using bottles), timothy hay, fresh spring mix veggies daily, and about ¼ cup of pellets each (daily). Some hidey houses (cardboard boxes work well) will make them feel safe. And they like toys to chew on and entertain themselves with.

If you want to keep one or all as pets, I recommend watching Lennon the Bunny for care information. Keep in mind rabbits do best indoors, and need lots of space like a cat or dog. They don't do well in small cages or hutches.
If you keep multiple, you should definitely get them all fixed (which helps with behavioral issues and litter training anyways). You'll then have to bond them all, which may or may not work.

If you cannot keep them all, or have trouble catching them, call your local humane society or house rabbit society rescue.

Would any of these be good? View attachment 3297790View attachment 3297792View attachment 3297793
(I’m assuming the alfalfa wouldn’t after I read a bit of stuff)

Yeah, we thought there Was A chance it wouldn’t survive super long, but it’s been around a month and it’s still here. But as always, a random hawk/falcon/owl could suddenly attack it (there’s a lot of them here)
(lot of hawks and falcons I meant I’ve never seen an owl nearby). Possibly a raccoon could get it, but we don’t have very many around here. always a chance tho (do they eat rabbits?)
Alfalfa is best for rabbits under six months, and nursing does. Otherwise, it should just be a treat.
I would buy a large bag of either orchard grass, timothy hay, meadow grass, or oat hay.

A raccoon would eat one if given the chance.
