I don't know much about them either but I'd have to say no to the vaulted head. I had hatched one that was different from the rest of mine but it died due to a stupid new broody. I think their head is somewhat squared, that's probably the wrong terminology. So maybe someone else can explain better. Cute chicks congrates. I have more eggs coming tomorrow. Setting Thursday on the full moon, with my D'Uccle eggs.
I can't tell for sure on 1 and 3 because if their fluff but chick 2 is vaulted. See the bump on her head? If you wet their heads you can tell better. I would say all 3 are bearded tho! Congratz!
still have only 2 hatched chicks but i now have a 3rd pipped egg yey thats 1 milli and 1 porcelian d'uccle getting ready to hatch and the last marans egg is getting ready come on chickies 7 more d'uccles still need to pip please let my other 7 pip and make it
Well we lost power for about an hour tonight so I quickly wrapped a heavy blanket around the incubator to keep the heat and humidity about the same. It dropped from 99 to 90. I warmed it back up and the chick finally put his beak through the membrain and made a big hole. I guess he is okay. I kind of pulled the membrain back a little I just kind of laid it over the shell.
ugghhh..almost lost one. I have a chick waterer...heard the chicks doing a screaming sort of chirp. I was putting my son back to sleep and didn't want to wake him. I figured it would stop..then it didn't. Decided to run back there and check and on of them was flopping around in the water dish half drowned. omg...how stressful is this????
Wrap it in a warm damp dish cloth might help. If you have to you can chip away shell but make sure you don't rip the membrain. be careful that you don't lose your humidity and compromise your other eggs tho!

For the first week I use a shallow lid like from a mayo jar or a sour cream lid. Its enough to get them wet but not drown. You have to check it often tho and make sure they have water. Silkies have special needs because they are so small when they are born. My standards I give them a chick water dish at day 1.
