I placed an order for 7 brown egg layer pullets (a grab bag, if you will) with My Pet Chicken sometime last month. Inbetween the time that I placed the order and the shipping date, I had a situation arise that prevented me from being able to take these chickens and care for them. I tried to call My Pet Chicken, but nobody answered the phone after I was on hold for a long time so I left a message that said in NO UNCERTAIN terms to cancel my order. No word from them. So I called again and left another message AND I emailed them a few days later. A couple of days after I sent the email, I got a rudely worded email from them about how it was too late to cancel my order and that I needed to find someone else to take them or they would have to find a "rescue" to take them.

This wasnt' then and isn't now about the money. It was about 10 days out from my order shipment, so I knew I would not get a refund. I didn't necessarily care about the money. I just didn't want these chicks to ship because I knew I couldn't take them. I sent an email back and said, go ahead and find them a rescue then (not that I believe for a second that's what they would do...I'm pretty sure they can turn around and resell them). Well I got a series of emails from them on Friday of last week saying, "your chicks will ship out on April 8!!!" I was like, "WHAT?!" I called TWO MORE TIMES (during regular business hours) and didn't get a live person but left two more strongly worded voice messages to CANCEL. I sent another email as well. Still didn't hear anything from them. Stopped getting emails, though, and never received ANYTHING saying that the chicks had shipped. No tracking number, which I would have expected if they were actually going to ship them. I felt comfortable that they finally got the message and quit worrying about it.

Get a phone call bright and early this morning from the post office that my chicks have ARRIVED at the Post Office and COME GET THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't have a way to get them from the post office!! I don't have a heat lamp. I don't have any way to take care of them at all. I'm not even in a position to be able to get to the post office today!

I can't believe this company has such horrid customer service. I never received a call back despite many attempts on my part. I find it difficult to believe that I never received a tracking number so I could have at least been somewhat prepared to deal with this. Granted, it should never have come to that, but if they were going to ship them against my wishes, they could have at least prepared me!!!

FURIOUS HERE!

Still scrambling to find someone to go pick them up for me. :-( And have NO idea what I'm going to do with them even if I can find somebody.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd sure be appreciative. I am in NC, and would be glad to meet someone within a couple of driving hours if anyone knows anyone who will take these chicks!!

You dont need a "heat lamp" ... A light bulb hanging im a box will work just fine until you find them a home... Which also shouldnt be too hard.. Put a sign up at your local feed store saying FREE and someone will take em

Even a desk lamp in a box would work if you can't hang a light. Just make sure they aren't too hot. If they are panting, that's too hot. You could also put an add on youir local craigslist.

Poor customer service sucks.

Poor customer service is the worst fur shur... Sucks when people wont work with you.. Either way, its irrisponsable for a company that sells baby animals to send them to someone who informed them they have no way to care for them.. I use meyer hatchery.. Multiple orders, 100% satifaction

Oh how horrid for the chicks and yourself!!!

Ok, these chicks can live on their egg sack for another 12 hours or so if they were day olds when shipped.

Call your local 4-H chapter. They usually have a "Poultry Program". Explain the situation.
That the chicks are waiting and could they take them for the kids? There may be kids
who can't afford chicks and would love to have them.
Call your local feed store or check the Internet to see if they have the number for the 4-H.
Best,
Karen

If I didn't live on the other side of the country, I would go get them for your, and even let them sit with my 1-2 week old till you could take them. I'm so very sorry. Hopefully everything turns out for you. Best of Luck!

Oh, I am just astonished!
