So Cal, Idyllwild, Anza, Garner Valley, Hemet. Rooster needs home!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will check with some feed stores, but the ones I use I have never seen them keeping any roosters at. I was hesitant to post on Craigslist as I was afraid someone would take him for fighting. I found a chicken breeder that will take him but he was very clear that he will be eaten. : (
Uggh, I know, I completely understand. Someone suggested I take mine to a poultry auction in the valley and "someone would for sure take them" but I wasn't going to do that to them because these boys are pets. Like I mentioned I ended up using the collars, but if that hadn't worked I was fully prepared to take them to the vet to get euthanized. I felt like it was the most humane thing to do as I wasn't going to take them from this idyllic life they had and then not know what happens to them or have them be abused somehow.

He's a beauty! I can ask my parents tomorrow--they live out in Anza but they travel a lot so I'm not sure if they'd want to get into chickens again.

tcfoster, that is exactly how I feel. He survived out in the forest on his own against the odds and now has a nice life and I do not want to send him somewhere to be abused or eaten. However, it is only a matter of time until someone turns me in and then that is a whole nother problem.

Ayuki, that would be very much appreciated. My daughter works as a horse trainer in Anza but hasn't been able to find anyone who would want to take him. Heavenly Horse Haven does take them in, but they have so many already that I can't ask Gina to do that.

I can put an ad on Craigslist tomorrow and see what happens. I don't really want or need a rooster but I don't want any harm to come to him either as he is a nice fellow and is getting prettier by the day! Seems a waste to hand him off to be butchered.

I am happy to report that Rocky the Rooster has been re-homed!!! He is now living at Heavenly Horse Haven in Anza. They are a horse rescue but they have a chicken coop and most of their roosters have gotten old and passed so they said bring him on over. So we did! Thank you Gina and Mike. I am most grateful.

Hi everyone. About 6 weeks ago I got a call about a rogue chicken running loose in the forest and making it's home at a home being remodeled. I rescued what I thought was a hen, but yesterday it became glaringly obvious that Lucy is really Lancelot.

I am not allowed to keep roosters and although several of my neighbors love the sound of a rooster crowing, there are also several mean spirited people in my neighborhood that love to call code enforcement anonymously and get you in trouble. So before that happens, I would like to find a home for this good fellow.

I have no clue what kind of chicken he is, but at this point he only crows a few times in the morning and otherwise is quiet, so far anyway. He isn't aggressive but he is skittish and while I do try to hold him once in a while, he doesn't really prefer that I do that. LOL!!! He isn't picking on any of my girls and sleeps outside of the coop by himself.

If anyone in the areas listed in my title can give this fellow a nice home, I would be happy to drive hime to you. I am disappointed he isn't a her, but what can you do? At least the coyotes didn't get him. He has been well fed and seems to have grown a bit since I got him and I treated him with Ivermectin pour on just in case while he was in isolation. He seems perfectly healthy now and has put on some weight. He was a bit thin and scrawny when he arrived. Thanks so much for your help.

If you can bring him to victorville he has a home with 8 hen all of his own. Heated coop and organic food with a loving owner.

Thank you so much for your kind offer. I gladly would have done, but he has already been rehomed. It sounds like you would have given him a wonderful home and I appreciate the offer.

Is this guy still available by any chance??
