I finally succeeded in convincing my mom to let me get Silkies!!! We went to TSC today and the chicks are irresistable (I know you all understand how it is...

) So we were all looking at them and exclaiming - one tub was full of banties and I knew they were Silkies. Their little topknots give 'em away. Most of them were all yellow/white, but there were a few that were white and grayish. I figure (right or wrong.. too late now) that those ones will end up like a blue, gray, or a splash color. I've been dying for a special breed since I first got chickens 5-6 years ago. I've only had the "typical" breeds like Barred Rocks, Delawares, NHR, RIR, sexlinks, etc. I love them but.... There's just something incredibly exciting about getting a "different" breed! So I got 2 Silkies.

And... One of the other tubs had chicks with chipmunk patterns. Looking at them for a while I saw that some had beards! I was convinced they were Ameraucanas. The girl helping us verified that. So I got me 8 new chicks! 2 Silkies and 6 Ameraucanas!!

I'm so excited I'm freaking out! And on top of all that, I get to keep them in my room with me... Something I've always wanted to do.

Pictures will come soon - maybe sometime tomorrow, after we get the piggies here too. Then I can show them as well.

i LOVE them im looking forward to getting more.

My husband was the one who helped me with my chicken math. Adding a Silkie to make our flock 4 (originally planning for 3).

Thanks all!

I got some pictures - not the greatest, but they're fine for now I suppose. I'll probably get better ones when my babies are older to find out boy/girl. (They were straight run, so here's hoping they're all girls....

) I looked up on McMurray's and found that the Silkies are probably buffs.

And here's Stubby and Dottie, my brother's new piggies. Stubby (the black one) is so named because her tail is stubby on the end. They just came home today. Man... We've all gone and gotten attached to Stubby... She's such a sweet cute little pig... We're all gonna cry come August/September...
