So he tells me, "Babe, I'm just not that into..."

My DH is a smell freak-thats a good thing-he can smell things more than I so a few weeks ago I had 10-7 weeks old chicks in the kitchen corner-and another brooder in our bathtub with chicks-he told me that was enough-I didn't dare tell him I had 50+ eggs arriving to incubate-I was silent until we move the 10 chicks to a large brooder in the garage and teh other brooder out there as well-house got clean odor is gone-eggs started arriving 1 box at a time-I quickly undid the boxes hid the eggs-somewhat-put them in before bed-he figured I ordered eggs but not THAT many...he's fine now but not looking forward to the smells again-just for a week or two until it warms up!!

I swore that was my last batch this year!

I'm grateful to know I am not alone

You are definitely not alone. My whole family had me in tears recently over my chickens. My grown children started calling me "chicken lady" and telling me how ridiculous they thought it was to have a yard full of chickens. Of course, DH had to add his two cents worth.

After sitting in my BO coop for a while crying, my husband and I had a long talk. I've always supported him in anything he wanted to do... told him it was time he supported me. The following morning, I awoke to find that he had already let the chickens out of their coops and into their runs. He even dug up some worms for my silkie roo (Mr. Jingles.. he's spoiled!)

Yesterday he asked me if I thought we should get some quail and pheasants

Maybe he's coming around

Sorry, but I will never have ducks unless they fly down and volunteer to live at my house. I'm soooo not a duck person.

DH is a neatness freak.
I'm the one that misses the laundry basket. And by the time I get around to doing laundry he's usually done it.
He loads the dishwasher because he can fit more in there than I can. I do the cooking.
He is a retired Army Sergeant and can't stand chaos. Me + 2 teen daughters + 3 cats + assorted chickens = total chaos. He knew that 3.5 years ago when we got married! Only back then it was hamsters, not chickens.

When he really gets on my nerves I remind him that he can always go back to the boring lonely life he had before me. And I describe it for him in detail. That shuts him for a couple of hours.

I gotta admit, the roller-coaster of our lives has been more stressful than usual, lately. And hatching chicks has comforted me greatly. But it pushes all the opposite buttons in him. He's a good guy though, and has mostly been very supportive. He never said I had to get rid of my chickens. Just back off for a while.
But even that is sooooo hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ditto!!! How wonderful!!!!

I can vouche for Tori (Mrs. AK-BIRD-BRAIN) her garage IS FULL of critters.

In an effort to help her with that dilema I did bring some home and they are still living in my bathroom for another week till the coop gets brought to my house. The dust is starting to get on my nerves but I change the litter in thier brooders every 2 days (probably overkill) so I don't notice too much of the county fair smell.

Good luck, enjoy your chickens!

Guess I’m kind of lucky here………….
After already hatching out eight goose eggs this year and sitting back watching my hubby shake his head, asking what in the world was I going to do with all of them, I conveniently “forgot”
wink.png
(yeah, right LOL) to mention I had three more goose eggs on the way.

The eggs arrive; I throw them in the bator before he gets home from work, then sit back and wait. Hubby comes home, sees the flashing light of the bator running, looks inside, shakes his head and walks out onto the back deck that overlooks the pond and duck house. About 15 minutes later he comes back inside, tells me to put my shoes on and come outside. As we’re walking out to the pond, I’m thinking “here we go, he’s going to take me out there, make me look around, come up with some kind a mathematical equation I can’t even fathom, that proves why I can’t possibly keep that many geese.”

Instead, we walk past the pond to an uncleared part of the property and he starts asking which trees I want to keep and which ones can go? After a bit of discussion about the trees, he lets me in on “the plan”. Hubby’s going to expand my fenced in, free range, area around the pond by another ½ to ¾ acre, nearly double the pond size, and build another house just for the geese.
