So how do you know who is laying what?

I wanted to know the same thing so i sat in the hen house
one morning with my coffee and watch the girls lay their eggs.
I really enjoyed the time i spent with them and found out exactly
who was laying what egg. I have 22 girls and i when i go to
collect eggs i know who laid that day.

I am sad Saturday and Sunday mornings are spent watching each girl enter nest and lay their eggs. All though they have many nest boxes provided, they all choose to lay elsewhere-Saturday I spend in 1 coop and Sunday in the other coop. I know exactly who is laying what. I have 22 layers from 14 different breeds and can tell who who laid what by their egg shape and color:) I have 14 more girls to get get eggs from so this might get a little tricky-I have more breeder pens getting put together this weekend so maybe not:) That lipstick Idea is great!

If you don't want to waste your lipstick, another member on here had a cheaper method of marking the girls. He/she used a drop of food coloring on the vent. Most of the color will be passed the first time they poo, but enough should be left to mark the eggs for a day or two. I"ve never tried it,but want to.

Edited to add, man, I love this list!
