So how long do quail chicks need the heating lamp

I have a courtinix hen that broods. Two times she has hatched and raised 10 chicks. Both time she weaned the chicks at 9 and 10 days of age. At that age I moved them to another outside pen (no heat source needed). Within days of weaning chicks the mother was laying again.

If I still have the pictures of the quail family I will post it.

I brought the hen and chicks indoors immediately after hatching then back outdoors after then hen showed no interest in the chicks (when they were too big for her to cover). The chicks all did well after being moved outdoors.

It’s summer here in Australia, 100 plus during the day. So I leave my 4 week olds outside without the lamp on. If we get a cooler night tho I turn it on. I’m not really able to accurately decrease their heat over time, I find they are a bit tougher than given credit for.

I live in Washington state. Is 3 or 4 weeks enough here. In in the Pacific Northwest on Washington State??

What if one is using the heating plate? So after 4 weeks... do you just make it higher and higher and remove? Or just remove on week 4? Since no way to actually decrease temps

You remove the heat plate when the chicks no longer appear to use it for warmth (they might still rest under it for shelter, though). You can raise it a little every few days until the chicks are spending most of their time resting elsewhere and/or they no longer press themselves into the plate. For both my hatches, that was at 3 weeks.

I've been having good luck hatching and rearing quail chicks with serama bantam broody hens. Below is our latest hatch. 13 chicks. No incubators-no heat lamps.

What kind of bird is this one! I just hatched 16 chicks yesterday so on day 16, and half of them are the color of these little chicks. I got the eggs from a online seller that didn't separate the kind. So we don't know what they will look like yet when they get feathers. We also have a bunch of bright yellow ones. Lol
