I was not gonna post about it but it has really chapped my xxx so to speak and now I want to vent I put this in the managing flock section because it involves how I manage them.

A woman came to replace some hens (predators I believes but she said the problem was fixed) anyway she wanted to buy 3 of mine and brought a friend. Well in the course of taking her around (after spraying her shoes with Lysol) she asked about the hot wire. I told her about my coon situation (see my I Hate Coons post) she said I was a horrible woman, I tried to explain that just dropping it off a few miles away was not a better solution, oh well.

Then we get to my eggloo (small British made coop supposed to be able to hold 4 but not really) in it I had one Bared Rock Pullet and an even younger silkie roo, so basically 1 1/2 chickens in a small but very reasonable sized coop that I move like a tractor every 2 weeks to a different part of the yard. Well she said how dare I raise chickens is such conditions that the poor Bared rock was abused because it was in a small coop and that if I could not afford to build great huge coops like hersand manage my flock properly then I did not deserve to have chickens, then she yelled at me for eating my extra roos. I told her she was crazy that I loved and cared very well for my pets and collected my money (the buyer was a nicer woman) and walked them to their car.

So eggloo plus 5 month old Bared Rock and 4 month old silkie equals animal abuser, and apparently protecting the flock that I abuse so makes me in line with the devil or some such thing.

LOL what a joke that woman was. The people who used to own our farm had a gigantic coop that was falling into the ground, in which they housed about 700 meat birds and 400 turkeys in such squallid conditions you wouldn't be able to comprehend...and yet according to this woman having a big coop is being a good flock manager...yeah okay buddy, I'm not so sure about the previous owners of my house! ...

I think you need to be flogged with a wet noodle and be sent to bed with no dinner! How dare you let your chickens be safe in a small moveable coop where they can enjoy themselves safely every day! What in the world happened to her chickens? Hopefully they won't be killed again, but I wouldn't be surprised. Don't think I would let her in my home again-would certainly double the price of anything she wanted to buy!

Actually, I think next time I would meet her at the door with a coon skin cap on, and invite her in for some home made rooster soup!

I sold to her friend who seemed normal and ashamed of her behavior. I really could not pass it up, she seemed like a decent woman who cared for her flock, she was doting over my birds and has 5 acres and a huge penned in coop so I thought it was a good home for some of mine. now her nasty friend I would and will never sell to! never.

If I understood correctly tho, she was the "friend" that tagged along. If I were the buyer, I would have been embarrassed to be there with her...

Why wasn't she (the buyer) called that by her own "friend" for allowing her animals to be eaten by predators....

Hmm if eating your extra roos is a bad thing, then I suggest the next batch you just tke to her and let her deal with them.

2 chickens in a egloo is just fine I have seen 4 standards in them. Some people need a reality check and she is one. I bet her place is a mess and the animals not well taken care of either. I find alot of people like that are just that way. First to tell you how bad your are treating your animals when theres are much worse.
