So I bought 30 chicks to raise and sell but I’m having trouble selling them where I live what should I do?!

They aren’t very old yet, so, a started pullet is usually near POL, so 14-16 weeks old. They should get the most money, as they are just beginning to lay, are young, are guaranteed females.

We sell at a livestock auction. It is extremely convenient for me. I drop off, everything sells, I get a check mailed to me, unless I stayed to bid on supplies that they also auction off (cages, etc). I don’t get top dollar always bc there is commission, and it’s all dependent on who is there to bid and what they want.

You cannot mail these chicks, I’m sure you are aware. Only USPS will carry live poultry. You would need to be NPIP to ship. Cost would be high. Large hatcheries offer started pullets and can ship them at 14-16 weeks. The cost of the bird isn’t usually all that high, but with shipping, it can be an overall high cost.

Enjoy the chicks. I’m sure you will be able to sell them as they are females.

I’m not sure if I need a special license to ship live chickens or not. I live in a small town in Utah 45 minutes from colorado
The laws of most States require an NPIP certification or a vet inspection for birds or hatching eggs to cross state lines. Based on your location, I'd recommend investigating both the laws of your home state and that of your neighboring Colorado. Few states restrict in-state shipping, but some do - most typically in the New England States, though I'd guess that CA and WA have gotten in on that as well, at least.

Ok I’ll have to check with their laws see what you have to do to ship them around here

I incubate my chicks and sell them when they're pullets on craigslist, but I sold mine for $8.00 apiece, so they went fast. Mine are of the California White breed, mostly. I just do it for fun and sometimes to replace older hens. I have the folks buying them, come to the house and get them and they need to have their own carriers or boxes for them. I do not deliver or supply boxes or carriers. I usually get about 5-6 roosters out of a batch and I just raise them till they're big enough to put in the freezer. I had Rhode Island Reds and they do lay nice large brown eggs but they're very aggressive so you probably know where they ended up! :D

One time deal is hard to make money at, especially first time or two.. as with everything in life experience brings knowledge.. confidence.. and sticking to your guns over several years will begin to pay off.. but don’t expect that much at first. And don’t get discouraged.. find your customers beforehand.. take notes make contacts now for next year.. make it into something.. longer term you’re not gonna get rich unless you go big numbers.. but it’s fun to tinker with.. good luck to you !!
