So I changed the nesting boxes to straw and they are making a mess!!!!

Momma Hen Chris,

I was ready to go buy your chickens! My EE laid beautiful blue eggs too..until a #%# hawk killed her. I have two new babies and hopefully theirs will be pretty like that. The brown eggs are beautiful! I am thinking cukoo marans are next!

This is Phoebe, my Cuckoo Marans. She lays me those pretty dark eggs. She is a hatchery girl and looks like she is half Barred Rock/Cuckoo Marans. Her sister, RIP Lucy, looked more like a CM. Found her one morning in August passed away on the floor in the coop. Very sad as that was my first dealing with a chicken passing.

My Welsummer lays the dark ones ( most times with freckles) that are seen in the basket

I used straw with shavings underneath, and I eventually hated the mess and the stains on the eggs when I washed them. The natural brown dyes in the straw and shavings left stains when wet!

This is happening to me too! I've filled their nest boxes three times this week and they just throw it out. I've never had hens do that before.
