I have been mulling over the idea of a berm style coop. I live in a pretty wet climate, so I think I will build mine above ground and cover it with dirt and sod. I saw a root storage "hobbit house" at Mother Earth News that got me starting to think about it. I love the idea of natural sound absorber for rooster crows. Let us know how yours is working.
