So, I finally joined after lurking from the depths.. ;-)

We got our White Silkie Roo from TSC a few years ago, which is the only reason I know what a silkie is. It was just something different than the RIR's at the time, and we fell in love with the breed! You can't ask the employees anything over there cuz they don't know a thing about chickens. lol I am just really hoping that the one chick is a Buff Silkie, and not another white. I know for positive I have at least 2, maybe 3 white silkies in this bunch. One I'm a little uncertain cuz it does have a little bit of colors in it, but faintly.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your chicks! Hope the one is a d'Uccle for you and some of the Silkies turn out to be buffs!

Thank you!! I was just checking out the black & yellow one & it has the hairiest legs of all the chickens! I mean its real thick, all the way down to the toes!! :) I hope that one turns out to be what I think it is & gets a cool pattern... I'll take it everyone agrees to what I said it was cause no one has disagreed yet. ;)

The combs are one of the silkies(?) doesn't look to be starting a "walnut" comb - but then hatchery birds can differ greatly from the breed standard. Also silkies are very difficult to sex before 4-5 mos. of age - even by experts. So I wouldn't make any serious attempts to sort them out now. A silkie with some mixed color may very well end up a patridge silkie.

Put "Silkie thread," in the search box and you will be able to post there and have all silkie people give you their opinions .

Thank you! I'm about 95% sure that I have at least 4 silkies, with 2 whites for sure. There is the one that has a lot of darker beige/orangy blotches which I've never seen before. The wing feathers are starting as an off-white color though...Plus, another has very little lighter orange blotches. Its wing feathers are coming in white so far though, so that one will probably be white. The other two bantams, which I think are not silkies, are making me very curious, as the only bantam I've ever had was a white silkie rooster. So its going to be an interesting experience! They are about a week younger than my silkies and a lot smaller, but so far my silkies are being very good with them. My worry is how and when all of these chicks will be introduced to my four 2 yr old RIR girls. I don't really want to build another coop if I don't have to... :-/
