So I found this chicken...

She needs friends! I know some people clip wings, and others never find they have to. But, if she had a flock (even one more chicken), she might be more inclined to stick around. They are social and don't like to be solo. It's against their nature.

What a lucky find, for both of you!

I do plan on getting a friend for her. She does seem lonely. I have a friend who rescues birds and she always has a few chickens so thought I would go see her this week.

She is an EE and I am glad she found you. I would get her a couple of friends. I love EE they can lay blue blue/green green or brown eggs.

I live in a very large city(St. Petersburg, FL), no rural areas around me so I can't get her too many friends. Do you think she would be okay with only one other chicken to keep her company?

From what I've read, it seems as though two chickens are okay. My original plan was to have 3. I have 7. I was warned that they are kind of like Lays potato chips- you can't have just one! When I told my friend I was getting 3, her response was, "Well, at least at first!" She was right. Anyway, yeah, if you have 2, that should do it. Be careful integrating them, though. There's probably tons of information on this site about introducing chickens to each other. Have fun!

Going to get her a friend tomorrow. My friend who rescues birds has lots of experience with chickens so she is going to instruct me on how to do the introductions and make sure I get a chicken that will get along with her. BTW I decided to name her Ginger and hopefully by the end of this weekend she will have a new best friend named MaryAnne.
