You can set up 30 gallon trash can auto feeders like 5 or 6. You can also get a 30 gal+ plus plastic bin for a chicken waterer with nipples. If you have enough of this set up you can leave for weeks and they would be fine. Use your imagination

Maybe a tractor supply thing? I'm in Ozarks of Missouri and just got the 2024 catalog from them and it's a Hoovers hatchery lol

What about getting your eggs collected?

It all depends, if you don't feed birds egg shells which is controversial but from experience they will eat their own eggs. Assuming they don't eat their eggs they would sit there. A fresh egg can stay out at room temperature for a month or two. You'd be fine. Now leaving for 6 months vacation would be rather irresponsible then you'd need to find an animal caretaker

They probably don't make much money on the chicks. They aren't really trying to. The chicks are there is bring customers into the store and spending money on everything else. People might pay $20 bucks for a few chicks, but they might also pay hundreds on brooders, feeders/waterers, bedding, feed, treats, etc. The store may even take a loss on the chicks, but they'll make it all back on all those extras. Even if a person doesn't buy chicks, if they come into the store the chances are high that they will buy something. Stores do this all the time. Like Costco's $5 chicken and $1.50 hotdogs.
