So I put one of my Emu eggs on the table just to see what would happen... I balanced it and left it alone... and nothing... Then I knocked on the table and nothing. So then I tapped on the egg ever so sllightly and a second later it started to roll...

So does that mean theres a baby inside?

When are they due to hatch? I noticed the week of hatch for mine that it would start to rock if I talked to it or tapped on it. I believe i read somewhere that the males will tap on the eggs to encourage the chicks.....

I herd scraping of the egg tooth a few days before hatching when i took a listen.....

I dont know... Ive had them in the incubator for 30 days... and I got the eggs from a safari park... the park had the emu already incubating them.. but they were not sure how long the eggs were already incubating... So its really anyones guess... I know it takes about 48 to 53 days.

Noticed something with my emu eggs cowboy.
today is day 50 and when I tap the egg with the top of my flat part of fingernail it has a very fine china like ring to it at day 48 they were very dull thud like.
Just an obersavition but I have to scratching and chirping in their eggs and one just not there yet. dont know if tis is becaues they have broke thru their air cell but it would be my guess.
their hatch weights are:
#3 started at 545g is now 470g about a 14% loss
#6 started at 580g is now 518g about 11% loss
#9 started at 600+g is now 538g about 11% loss
my start data could vary a bit as the scale i had ..not so good
I have more data soon

Did either of you try the float test? My eggs are due to stop turning in a week, and I would like to try a float test, but not sure what I need to do? Does the water need to be 97 degrees? Also how soon would I get results from a float test.

Thanks

foulman, I am in the same boat as yours...my three that are in lockdown..when I tap them with my fingernail..it almost sounds like you are tapping on a china plate or something. So I guess that sound is a good thing!

When I did my float test I filled my laundry tub up with water about 97 degrees and then let the water settle for a few minnutes. I then lowered my eggs in gently. The egg that didn't develop floated lower than the others. After a few seconds the eggs with chicks in them started to move on their own.

Awesome, thank you! I actually took each one out and balanced it on the table, and each one rocked on it's own, so I'm pretty sure I've got babies!
