So I think I am getting a Mini Horse...

Congrats! on your new addition! Must be very exciting!

I too would geld though if you decide to. I just had a colt gelded recently (3 year old). He was super sweet and well behaved with people but was starting to get a little stressed out about breeding something

and other horses. Now that he is gelded he is even better, has a much better attention span (before he would occasionally turn into the wind in the hopes of smelling mares) and is just easier to handle over all. He is a full sized horse but I'm sure it would be the same with your's as they are both horses after all.

Good luck with whatever you do! Im sure he will bring you many years of happiness!

I am already finding out that one of the first things I am going to have to work on with him is patients. He does NOT want to stand still for more then a few seconds. Even tying him up leaves him antsy and he will start to paw the ground and fight the lead rope a little. He also does not like me picking up his back legs AT ALL. He does OK with his fronts....he will squirm around a little, but not too bad....but his hind legs..OMG he panics lol. I know he is still scared and so I am giving him time to adjust and not rushing things, but I am going to be working on it a little each day.

Awwwww...he is just too cute! Working with picking up his feet a little at a time is the way to do it. Your farrier will appreciate a well behaved mini.
Congrats!

aw, that little thing is just TOO dute!! I SOOO want a mini horse but hubby says the pastures are for animals we can eat. He's right of course....we really don't have enough pasture for the sheep we do have so adding a couple minis would not be a good idea. But congrats on yours!!!

aw, he is adorable! i had a colt..got him as a weanling raised him to over 2yrs old... he was a little pesty at times but at heart was so sweet.. i handled him just fine.. It's a long story how he never got to being gelded but he was handled mainly by women.. and kids and wasn't a concern in the least.. i have no doubts a lot was his basic personality.

He was a sorrel too.. with blanket.. I know stallions can be an issue but i think as with any horse it really does depend on the core personality.. anyways.. enjoy.
