I've had chickens for just over a year now, and this site has helped me in all things chicks and chickens, but I'm finally introducing myself! My name is Allison, and I live in Tennessee with my husband, 2 daughters, 3 horses, 1 pony, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 24 fully-grown chickens, and a new addition of 29 (!) chicks, with more due to hatch in about two weeks. It all started with 6 pullets from TSC, and it has exploded from there. Thank goodness for my wonderful, accommodating husband who humors me! We live out in the country, where we have 10 acres and are surrounded by farms, so my chickens are able to free range all of the time, without any type of fencing. The coop door stays open, and they go in when they're ready to lay eggs, eat, or sleep at night. My chicken-loving, opossum-killing German Shepherd is employed as my full-time chicken guard and does a great job of keeping the coyotes and other predators away. I've recently started selling eggs, which is how I was able to justify to my husband that I did, indeed, need to more than double my flock. ; ) Anyway, I'm eternally grateful that I found this site, and I look forward to learning even more from fellow chicken addicts!

Welcome to BYC!

You have a wonderful barn yard of critters! And it sounds like the chicken math was definitely at work at your place....2+2=14

Feed stores are definitely enablers this time of year.

So pull up a roost bar and welcome to our flock!

Welcome!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your new chicks and the upcoming hatch! Yup, sounds like chicken math has taken over again!

I think your dog deserves a raise. When most new members mention their dog, it's usually to say it wiped out their entire flock. So your post is a breath of fresh air.
