So in the middle of the night some random person wrote a message on my front door

I have trip beams and motion lights all around. For a good reason.

If someone can get to your front door without alerting you, you have
at best mere seconds once they do enter.

I suggest beams placed as far back as prudent in order to allow
you reaction time. Motion lights are a must.

You could always use the country solution. Go to the thrift store and get a couple of pairs of old size 13 boots . Leave the boots and a couple of copies of Gun and Ammo magazine along with 4 large dirty dog food bowls on the porch (some spent shells wouldn't hurt either). Tape a note to your door.

Hey Bubba,
Donnie Ray, Jim Bob and me have went to the store to get more ammo. Be back in a few. Better not go inside. Wait here on the porch for us. The pitbulls tore up the mailman pretty bad yesterday. Don't think Killer was involved, but hard to tell what with all the blood.

Love it!

But seriously, when I read what they wrote, it gave me chills. Maybe I've read too many murder mysteries, but it sounded like a threat to me. Definitely report it to the police. But be proactive as well. Get yourself some protection. I have a 12 gauge shotgun that stays loaded (with safety on) and will not hesitate to use it if someone breaks in. If you have a storm door, make sure your storm door and your inside door are locked before going to bed. Motion sensors are a fantastic idea. Both my porch lights are motion sensor lights. If they come on, I know something came within 6 feet of the porch and deck. And I get up and check. I'm a light sleeper so I hear all kinds of noises. Course, I work graveyard shift and sleep during the day, but on my days off, I'm checking every time the lights go off. A big dog is another great idea if your yard (and budget) will allow it. My neighbor's dog has decided to move to my house as his owner doesn't take enough interest in him. He is a great deterrent when sales people show up in my driveway. Good luck!!

That is really spooky. I would want to booby trap it so the next time they showed up something like a bucket of rotten eggs falls on them! LOL!
If I set up a booby trap, I know exactly what booby would get trapped. Me. That would be true even if I was the one that set it.

My vote would be some sort of a surveilance camera.

Hopefully it is a bad joke from teenagers. If some one wanted to harm you I don't think they would give advance warming. Around here writing on signs is very big with kids, some get very creative. Good luck.

Im the booby trap idea! Just think about it... a person going to jail covered in a bucket of rotten eggs :) Hope you get the problem fixed!
