God help the person who would have even considered cutting my DD's hair to get anything out of it!!!!!!

(I should have put a disclaimer that I homeschool my kiddos too.)

I guess I'm weird/unusual, because to me, in the scheme of things, this is an insignificant thing for either party to be upset about.

I know an awful lot of teacher, know what they deal with on a daily basis, and think....I wouldn't want their job for a million bucks.

Im a teacher and more effort needs to be exerted by schools to eliminate cell phone, ipod and MP3 players at school. Leave the kids' fashions, their hair, what they wear, alone.
I believe school officials focus on what is easiest for them to deal with rather that what really needs to be addressed and would be most effective. They have to justify their positions and appear as if they are doing something, with the least opposition from parents and students. Students learning is NOT at the forefront of their decision making.

Oh that is ridiculous! I would have flown to the school and demanded to see the individual that touched my son without contacting me first. that would really tick me off.

I had someone change my daughter whe she had a potty accident in kindergarten...they never called me, never told me nothing. I was at home all day and was less than a mile from the school. My daughter comes home in little boys' clothing and I went nuts. I raised the roof of that school and the school board and did everything but tap dance on social worker's face. I have never been so mad

My sons school sees holidays as special events to make a few bucks in donations. Usually they wear uniforms, but today they were alowed to wear green for a 1$ donation . This money goes to the little goodies they get on friday. So far he got basketball tickets twice for the local state college, donuts ice cream or pizza...
my DD's school doesnt do stuff like that, too bad. I will highlight her hair the last week of school and put pink in too. THe last few days they dont care , they were jus glad that kids still showed up(on the last day she was the only kid on her bus).

I have so many horror stories from my oldest DS elementary school years it would make mother Theresa spitting mad...

But I have learned from the bad experiences of my first child in the public school system.

I am a royal pain in their backside I make sure the teacher and principals know that I know what my rights are as a parent and my childs rights are as a student, and I also tell them where their boundaries end.

I used to be a push over parent but when my child came home in different clothing one day because the teacher did not like the logo, mrs nicey nice went out the window..

In ontario the school cant touch a child even to assist them with putting on sun screen.. if the thought of washing green dye even entered their minds i bet you the veterans of the school would have advised them not to and to not make that parent angry she can make your life very bad...lol...

(I am not a mean person just dont mess with my kids)

I so wish I could home school my kids again...but financially I cant...

this was his blue hair phase

my son has had turquoise hair, purple hair, green hair, red hair....we have him in a charter school that allows freedom in personal expression. it is HIS choice. i personally feel there are worse things than colored hair, and if kids want to express themselves it should be ok as long as it causes no permanent damage(which parents should be aware of in the first place) or does no harm to others; maybe i'm too lenient and this is a family decision of ours. if my son's hair caused an issue in school, we probably would only let him do this in the summer. i'm sorry you had to deal with that, it seems like your son was just having fun on st. patty's day too-i think it was a cute thing all in all. i don't understand how they could do that if it wasn't in the handbook and other kids could in the past. are they allowed to color their hair for halloween? it seems a bit weird that your son would have to go through this and yet it was allowed by others before...i guess that is the part that would really have me miffed.

No, you are not alone at all.

Also, you couldn't pay me a million bucks to risk their job over something this insignificant. I have three children and I am psycho picky about how they are treated at school but the "don't EVER touch my child" has been carried way too far. If I can't trust the teachers at all with my kids then my children shouldn't be there. Had this happened to my child I would be a little irritated that they weren't allowed to express themselves, but that would be the end of it.

They tried to dress my child in the nurse's extra clothing one day when he spilled BBQ all over his then tried to wash it out. He was in Kindergarten then. He refused and made them call me....said their clothes weren't nice enough (I was embarrassed LOL).

This was a nurse.....I am assuming shampoo is something she keeps in her office for emergencies. What if a child got something on them that needed washed off to prevent skin irritation.....would people be screaming "don't EVER touch my child" then?

ETA...just for the record, our school is great about allowing personal expression. My kids all have their ears pierced (boys) and my middle one has had a crayon red mohawk and a blond mohawk. He was even the class King for Fall Festival when the mohawk was red.
