Dont bother with animal control anymore. call the POLICE. The RR has already bitten you! Come on! you should have had a police report filed then! most towns have a three bite rule, and after the first bite, a lot of places require muzzles and leashes AT ALL TIMES.

Dont screw around with these putzes anymore. Call the police NOW, before the hubby comes. Draw the line and toe it. Or they are never going to be accountable.

And definetly take photos and turn on the date and time stamp feature on your digital camera, this will help a lot!

If the husband raises his voice to you, slam the door in his face and call the police. Letting vicious dogs roam and yelling at the victims is threatening. However, if Mr. Ditz is calm and rational, inform him that for his dog's safety it should be kept in. Let him know that you are planning on working on your car radiator and there may be pans of antifreeze laying around. I'm not saying to actually poison the dog. I'm saying to let him know it could happen in a legal no liability to you way. I know you are like me and probably wouldn't poison a dog, but he might be stupid enough to believe it. Also, carry a camera all of the time. Take the idiot dog's picture in your yard. It's a shame you can't shoot it. As you know, we had Rhodesian Ridgeback trouble at our house last fall. I'm sure that with good owners they can be nice pets, but bad owners make them a nuisance at best and danger at worst.
An invisible fence for a RR is a joke. I wish that people wouldn't get pets that they don't understand.

well I must say you are dealing with this better then i would. Especially after being bitten!!!!
We are fortunat that the only dogs around our area are our own and although 2 of the 3 of them do chase our chickens its our responsibility to make sure the dogs are in their kennel while the chickens are roaming around and our neighbours are either good friends or family as we live out in the country.

These people are obviously very irrisponsible. We were told 1 of our dogs were seen chasing deer(a new habit,not sure why) !!! Not good! As much as I want to belive that its not our dog and our neighbours were mistaken I know that it is possible and we took the nessary steps to stop it and We went out and spent almost $700 on a invisible fence to keep our dogs in our area.
If you are an owner of a pet especially dogs you have to be responsible for their actions. Dogs don't know what they are doing is wrong if you don't teach them.

Good luck with your neighbours. Animal control should be taking more a stand. I don't understand especially when one of the dogs bit you.

Blame the owner, not the dog. Since they have owners, shooting them is just cruel...it's not their fault their owners are idiots. But they can be taken away from their owners by the Humane Society/Animal Control if they aren't be properly controlled.

And if that dog bites you again, definitely call the cops and have it documented. Heck next time the dogs show up, call the cops so you have witnesses. Even if the RR doesn't bite you again, if he's growling at you and standing his ground, he's a threat. You should not have to put up with fearing to go out in your own yard because of a vicious dog.

As far as electric fencing...it doesn't work against really eager animals. They get excited and barrel through it and only get a momentary shock. The fun of running amok is obviously worth it to them.

One last thing...pepper spray does work on dogs. A face full of that may be the negative reinforcement they need to stay away from your yard. However, that won't keep them from harassing other innocent bystanders in the area.

Gosh, you're having such a bad time, I'm so sorry to hear this. You're dealing with idiots ( don't we all know a few). We have nothing resembling animal control here but we have laws allowing us to destroy dogs who harrass livestock. I'd hate to do it, and our predator problems is so severe that we have a coop/nearly impenetrable run. I would think this is going to continue and while you are protecting yourself and your birds you will probably need a safe if small outdoor run to protect your chicken investment. I assume you are documenting- have you had blood work? RR's were bred to attack, they have one of the highest ratings for agression. Police definitely, it's gone beyond your community's ability to handle the situation. Again, I'm very sorry.

I would not chase that dog! Hes already bitten you once. No gun? Wack him in the head with a shovel. Then call the cops and tell them hes bitten you once and hes killed your birds. you tried to chase him away , he turned on you again and you wacked him with the shovel. By the sound of it thats whats going to happen anyway. Either you're going to get bit again OR ..... self defense

know what i'd do? may not be right, but...if animal control wont help and the neighbors are jerks about it...take the dogs for a ride..find a shelter somewhere...
