So many losses, so many missing, upset...

I would think so. It could still be the rott though. I stay up far later then normal this time of year to make sure they don't get our cats or chickens. Coyotes are bad about getting into coops around here. One of my neighbors lost their whole flock about two weeks ago. I really wouldn't put it past them.

As for the cats, it's sad to hear that they had to go like that, but at the time you didn't know if it was them or not.

Sorry for your loss! Is your mom going to pay for the killed chicks? Was it her fault or did something break into the coops? If it were me and I did not lock up as I agreed too then I would offer some money.

Your dogs behavior would tend to indicate it was not him, and something he could not stop. I have seen this behavior with livestock guard dogs many times.

Feral cats will readily kill chicks and young chickens given the opportunity. Sounds like they jumped in for a free meal. After an ordeal like this they would be more likely to look at any chicken as lunch.

Coyotes work will look like a war zone.

Please don't blame yourself. You had a right to go out once in awhile. I am sure your mother did the best she could. I think you should put up a game cam and catch the predator. So sorry

The cats wouldn't have killed all of those chickens. It was a dog, if you don't find any larger sets of tracks around, probably yours, how old is he?

so sorry for you loss, did any more show up. I would think dog or coyote does not sound like a cat they just took advantage of what they found I don't think you puppy did the either. Good luck on catching the predator it will be back.

I probably would have had them taken to a shelter, and not shot them. Either they would have been taken by somebody else as a pet, or put to sleep humanely.
