I need to get some pictures, but I've been pleasantly surprised by my Welsummers this week. Every day or so I've been getting a beautiful dark egg, and they just keep getting DARKER!

Yesterday I had one that was actually slightly darker than the pot that I grow a cactus in (the only non-plastic pot in the house :p ), which is just sweet. I don't think they're going to win any prizes, but wow... and I was satisfied with the slightly darker speckly ones.

And these are hatchery birds! Makes me want to grab some and hatch them and see what quality Rooster is. This also makes my decision to go all Wyandotte a little harder.

Congrats!!!!! I'd love to see the pics of them.

I'm still waiting on my wellies to lay. They are 20 weeks now, and nuthin! No squatting, nothing! Looks like I have a while to wait.

Congrats! My one Welsummer hen lays eggs just dark and speckly enough to make me want more. She's very flighty and neurotic though, hope my next Wellies will be more pleasant.

I bought two wellsummers at the feed store today and she told me they lay the most beautiful BLUE egg?

Welsummers lay a dark terra cotta color. (like a clay pot) If they said they would lay blue eggs, they might be Easter Eggers. (often sold as Americauna) But you could get any color egg, they don't just lay blue eggs. It is possible you still got a welsummer and the person just didn't know what they were talking about. Do you have a picture of the chicks?

Fuzzy picture, but it sure looks like one. I think they told you the right breed, but the wrong egg color. Never trust a feedstore clerk.
