So...silkies are the dumbest birds ever...*UPDATE!!!*

Well, MY silkies can't fly.
Sounds like you have yourself some star athlete kind of silkies!
Maybe we should be saying that the majority of silkies cannot fly. There is an exception to every rule, or so I've been told!

Spring Creek Farm, did you get your little silkies this morning?
Good luck on your hatch! Hope you get lots of silkies!

Yes, I did get them, and they are quite a pretty bunch of birds! I have a white rooster, a blue rooster, a black hen and a blue hen. Altogether now I have 1 red rooster, 1 blue rooster, 1 white rooster and 2 black hens and 2 blue hens. I am supposed to be getting a white hen from a friend of mine. I need to find a red hen...funny thing, the guy that I got them from works with me and his wife is the one with all the chickens. They needed more space and he did not have the time to extend their coop so she decided she would sell them. She had already given me the red rooster. Anyway, he told me that it was a white rooster and 3 black hens but the smaller one was about a year old and he was not sure, maybe it could be a rooster but he thought it was a hen. Well, I picked them up early this morning and came on home and got them settled in a temporary "holding pen" if you will. I was up the hill at the other coops and the roosters up there started crowing. Well, I heard crowing coming from the new pen and just kinda smiled to myself and went down to take a look at that big boy and you might have guessed that the other larger blue chicken was just crowing his little ole heart out!

Yup, 2 roosters, hopefully 2 hens. The other one is smaller but it does not look like a rooster. We'll see...I am trying to add to my silkie flock as you can see and it would appear that I have plenty of roosters and in need of more hens. Slowly but surely I will get there!

Thank you for the well wishes on the hatch; I am keepiing my fingers crossed!

silkies cannot fly, their wings are practically like fluffy toothpicks. they are thin and do not catch air well. they can't roost

Tell that to the one that got over the 5' fence....and the ones that are able to climb into the coop.

Beats me. i don't own silkies but I got a whole bunch of EE's sold to me under silkie/ameracauna crosses, and one of them has the silkie feathers gene so we affectionatley named him useless, cuz he cant fly.

You didn't see their pole-vaulting practice, or find rope ladder they hid behind the nest boxes under some loose hay? Why else do you think one of them always stays in the coop?
