So....talk about.....CANCER SUPPORT THREAD !!

I do not know why this thread takes my computer forever to get up, but I am trying.

Deerman, I hope you are recovering from the surgeries well. You are always in my thoughts.

Broodytood, I was hoping you'd post. A friend of mine does something called lymphatic drainage. You might find a massage therapist or a physical therapist in your area that can demonstrate it to you.
It is almost like petting your skin . It is a light slight pull or push in the direction of the healthy nodes, or remaining nodes. Even if there are no nodes left in the area, the duct work can pick it up even with out the 'pumping station'
You start as far down stream from the affected area as you can and start a suction effect. Then work up to the edema and slowly just pet yourself drained.

Your fingers and wrist will start getting puffy and you will feel tight or stuffed up. I believe you pet down your rib cage first then from the arm pit down then the upper arm down then the lower arm up. You may be able to google it. I know there are books because my friend has some. You need to follow the lymphatic pathway. I know how the face flows, but I am not that sure about the rib cage. head to the nodes. I bet you know where they are!
You health care people like to push on them when we do not feel well.

It has to be a light touch though, If it is heavy or painful, then you are collapsing the duct work and it will not be as affective.
maybe if you purr while you do it it will not seem like work.

I hope all of you are feeling better very soon.

broody .....glad that part is over for you.

my doc . set me up for a 2nd pet scan....to see if the growth on my pancreas is more of the colon cancer....or a 2nd disease like pancreas's cancer...go back on 17th and 20th.....

still off all chemo,so liver and heal......i should be glad...but keep thinking three weeks without chemo...how fast is the cancer is spreading. i know the spots on the liver are there...but one thing about the liver it doesn't give the pain signs. So i can't tell if it getting worst.

Please don't worry....if you would see me ......you wouldn't even know i had cancer..........all on the inside. I'm still able to do most things.

I'M living a good life........how can't I.....with this bunch

Thanks for all that good info. Guess I'll have to learn the direction of the flow.
Right now I can't tell if I have lymphedema or not. I don't even know how many nodes they took out.
The recovery room nurse didn't know and the surgeon had gone home by the time I came to.
I feel like I have a pulled muscle down my arm and that hand seems to be colder that the other.
I might be imagining things... I heard that if you catch it early you can really help things not get real bad.
Need to do more research I guess.
A friend of mine just found out that her BC is back. It's only been 2 1/2 yrs and she had a full mastectomy.
Please pray for her and her family as they start all over again. Her name is Sandy.

Burt- You are an inspiration. You have a beautiful bunch there! Thanks for sharing your family pic with us!
We are continuing to pray and lift you up!

Hey Broody! When I had it, it was in my upper arm. The skin actually got tight from all the fluid. We were going to do exercises, massage, and a compression sleeve, but learned soon afterward that the cancer had come back in the nodes. That is why the lymph was backing. Thankfully the nodes shrunk down after just 1 chemo treatment and everything drained. Where the nodes were that had the cancer couldn't be operated on, Chemo knocked it out.

Yes those are my grandkids. 4 girls 2,real tough boys. They think they are cage fighters.with me or their dad.

Oldest boy takes after me...loves birds......i even let him hatch out eggs.
