So....talk about.....CANCER SUPPORT THREAD !!

Coyote, I have to have a CT scan before I visit the Doc again, she wants to go over that first, go from there and then she will tell me what meds to prepare me for. I guess for the side effects and such. gee, I can't wait. Then, after that, I set up an appt for the hospital to have that "port" put in. Then...........I get set up for the chemo "treatments" I didn't look into the "infusion room" I didn't have the guts, I'll be there sooner or later. Five hours of "relaxing and reading fun materials, or listening to music or maybe my hypnosis CDs." during treatments? I don't know, I need to prepare myself I suppose............Today is day #1 of the "reality news". One day at a time.

Luna, mine was all spring and summer too, look back the time flew past. It will be over before you know it. In my case my hair , came back in without much grey, as b4 the chemo.

It gave me time to set eggs, and brood chicks. think that made time go faster. Wish you the best.

Ask about Emend, they gave me those the day I was on the chemo pump. My chemo was 3.5 hours then 3 days on a pump givin me chemo. The Emend I took those 3 days, Didn't throw up any!!!

Thank you deerman, I'll remember that, Emend. Give me those drugs...........

The port is soooooooooooooo much better than having a "pic" line or having to have the IV's put in everytime. I have horrible veins. Port is a little bit bigger than a half dollar it goes under your skin into a good sized vein. I had mine put in during an outpatient procedure and went out to lunch afterward. They killed the pain, but I was awake during the entire thing cracking jokes with the anesteiologist. (I actually go get my stitches out from having mine taken out tomorrow. They just put steri-strips over it when they put it in.)

They will use what is called a Huber needle to access it for chemo. The Huber is a "non-coring needle" basicly it means when they stick it in it doesn't take a chunk of tissue out like a regular IV needle does. It looks like a hook. Ask them to spray the numbing agent on it before they stick you. Most times I would go without the spray because it's a totally sterile field(because it's going in near your heart) and they had to wait for somone to come spray because of their sterile gloves. If they do it quick, it's a small pinch and done. NOTHING like the IV needle.

My treatments took about 5 hours too, but only because they were afraid I would have an allergic reaction so they dripped it drop by drop. (I'm allergic to everything) I got a major dose of benedryl and stomach meds at first and slept through the rest of it. I did bring a magazine or book and my MP3 but like I said I slept.

You need to find "your" spot when you go. We had a enclosed patio away from all the hustle and bustle of the place. I knew it was the place for me because the first day I went, a Mockingbird, flew down to the railing outside the window and started fussing. I love Mockingbirds. Lots of other folks set out in the main area and talked the whole time with nurses and all the others. I was out there one time and felt "exposed" after having spent so many days out on the patio but there wasn't any room that day. Bring a blanket and maybe a little neck pillow. Hey! You can work on your chicken blocks!! LOL.

Luna,

I have no experience with what you are going thru, I just summon all the powers that be to give you strength and cover you with love. You are in my thoughts.

I also had the port also. Worst thing about the port was when they remove the tape (hairy chest) to remove the pump...they even used it to draw blood, b4 the chemo treatment.

Would kid my Granddaughters, call it my button. push it i would fall to sleep,

Looks like they got your early.......you will be fine . Chemo is no fun,but it will kill the cancer cells, that may be in your body.
